PRE-CONFERENCE

Cameron Cole | Present Benefits of the Gospel for a Youth Generation Geared Toward Instant Gratification

  • When we traditionally think about the gospel, we tend to first associate with eternal security and salvation. With a generation of kids fixated on the here-and-now, how do we communicate the gospel in a manner that connects and relates? John’s Gospel spoke largely to a Greek audience who cared only about the present life. In this pre-conference, we will look at how we can communicate the present benefits of the gospel in a way that engages this generation of teenagers. We will draw largely from John’s Gospel and his emphasis on the abundant life that Jesus offers right now.

SEMINAR GROUP 1 – 12:00 PM – 12:45 PM

Preaching Seminar | Robert Smith | Bringing Doctrinal Preaching to Life

  • Preachers and teachers have the mandate to accurately teach the Word of God, evangelize the lost and help the growing body of Christ thrive in a world competing for its attention. This seminar aims to help preacher/teachers learn to become engaging doxological dancers who exegetically escort hearers to clearer understanding of sound doctrine and abate the fate of increasingly biblically illiterate congregations.

Women’s Ministry Seminar | Mary WillsonThe Joy of Letting the Word of Christ Dwell in Us Richly: Women’s Ministry and Bible Study

  • This seminar will consider the training of women in local churches to study, handle, and share the Scriptures in their various contexts and callings, for the glory of Christ. Practically, we will discuss basic tools for instructing women in your local church in Bible study, and ideas about how to incorporate within your women’s ministry program direct training of a teaching team, in joyful submission to pastors and elders.

Worship Seminar | Shai LinneEnjoying the Presence of God Together

  • Psalm 16:1-11. What does it mean for God to be present with us as we gather for corporate worship? And what is the connection between the presence of God and the joy of His people? In this seminar, we’ll explore Psalm 16 and discover (or re-discover) the corporate gathering of believers as a means of grace to fuel our delight in God.

Elders Seminar | Jamie Dunlop | Shepherding a Gospel-Revealing Church Community

  • Much of what we call “church community” is nothing more than natural friendships that, frankly, would exist even if the gospel didn’t.   Instead, our churches should aspire to relationships that show off the power of the gospel.  This seminar looks to wisdom from Ephesians to help us pastor our people toward community that values Christ more than comfort.

Church Planting Seminar | Kempton Turner Joyz in the Hood

  • The God of glory has a good plan to plant gospel joy in our often neglected inner cities of America. And He is doing just that from coast-to-coast! Come and discover God’s delight in bringing hope-filled, overcoming joy to a hood near you through church planting. Come and consider your role in it…

Family Ministry Seminar | Bud Burk | Helping Families Practice Christian Hedonism in the Home

  • Parents, learning by grace as they join God in enjoying him, with growing affections for Christ and a deepening intimacy with the Father, are humble, grateful and hopeful means in the Spirit’s hands to draw, save and sanctify their children. This blessing is lived out in the normal rhythms of life at home, as young eyes watch on and young ears listen in, while the tone and countenance of their home reflects the Spirit’s good work in their parents’ hearts. This seminar is aimed at gently guiding the parent’s heart in enjoying God through seasons of peace and pain, with the hope of gracious overflow upon their children in the home.

Spanish Seminar | Juan Sanchez |  Gospel Joy: Abiding In Christ – Gozo en el evangelio: Permanecer en Cristo

  • Join us as we root our joy in Christ and our union with him. We will consider the benefits and blessings of our union with Christ. Acompáñanos a encontrar la raíz de nuestro gozo en Cristo y nuestra unión en Él. Consideraremos los beneficios y la bendición de nuestra unión con Cristo.

SEMINAR GROUP 2 – 1:15 PM – 2:00 PM

Preaching Seminar | Steven Lawson | Preaching the Glory of God in Your Sermons

  • Every preacher must magnify the greatness of God in his proclamation of the word. The chief purpose of the word of God is to exalt the God of the word. Every exposition must be an exaltation of the supreme God of heaven and earth.

Women’s Ministry Seminar | David & Shona MurrayThe Joy of Living a Grace-Paced Life in a World of Endless Demands

  • Is there any hope for rest in a world of never-ending demands? Drawing on many years of counseling and their own experiences of burnout and depression, wife and husband team Shona and David Murray want to help you slow down to a more grace-paced life—enabling you to avoid the pitfall of burnout, cultivate sustainable habits for the future, and experience the rest of body and soul that God alone can give you.

Worship Seminar | David Peterson | Joy in the Holy Spirit in the Gathering of God’s People

  • What does it mean to experience “Joy in the Holy Spirit in the Gathering of God’s People?” We will answer this question by looking at Romans 14:13–15:13, especially verse 14:17 where the expression “Joy in the Holy Spirit” is found, in the context of edification, love, a focus on Christ in the Scriptures, and unity in praise.

Elders Seminar | Ed Moore | Encourage One Another:  Joy in Shepherding Through Gospel-Centered Relationships

  • The New Testament imperative to encourage is sadly neglected in a world where discouragement abounds. A gospel-centered understanding of this doctrine, along with intentional applications, will yield joy for those in need.

Church Planting Seminar | Kenny Stokes | Joyful Church Planting for the Glory of God

  • Kenny Stokes, Pastor for Church Planting at Bethlehem Baptist Church will present key aspects of church planting which ought to be profoundly shaped by a Gospel-grounded satisfaction in Christ. Such a focus proclaims the Gospel, fuels worship, fosters glad obedience and poisons the deep roots of duty-driven legalism.

Family Ministry Seminar | Collin Hansen | The Duty and Delight of Catechizing Your Children

  • Catechesis was a top priority in the Reformation. And it will be vital for church renewal in our own day as well. Learn how modern-day catechesis can help your family resist the world’s false hopes and rejoice in the Lord’s sure promises.

Spanish Seminar | Luis MendezPersiguiendo el gozo del Evangelio en la familia

  • The gospel invites us to a life focused more and more on the community and less on individualism. Today as never before we need to develop a culture of grace in our families where the gospel is exalted through forgiveness and genuine love.

SEMINAR GROUP 3 – 2:30 PM – 3:15 PM

Women’s Ministry Seminar | Kori Porter | Joy of Discipling Women

  • Great joy can be found in the privilege of investing in the lives of women. This session will discuss how prioritizing the Word of God shapes both the disciple and the discipler for eternal impact.

Prayer Ministry Seminar | Scotty Smith | The Joy and Power of a Gospel-Saturated Prayer Culture

  • Jack Miller, my spiritual father for 21 years, lived out before me the transforming joy and power of praying God’s gospel, his redemptive story, and irrepressible promises. This seminar will help us understand how the promises of God claim us, more than we claim them. Through prayer, we grow in gospel-astonishment, kingdom gladness, and missional passion. We will consider various ways of renewing both personal and corporate prayer life.

Healthy Churches Seminar | Jamie DunlopAdministration: Sharing the Joy of the Master

  • What are God’s goals for church administration?  Church administration can be the most joyless of Christian work because it seems most removed from dependence on God.  Yet as we capture his priority to show off his goodness in the service of administration, we find opportunity to enter into the joy of the master.

Discipleship Seminar | Jonathan Leeman | How to Cultivate a Culture of Discipling

  • The discipling ministry of a church shouldn’t be treated as a program or special event. Helping others follow Jesus–discipling–is basic Christianity and should characterize a church’s culture. How do we cultivate such a culture? It starts with the teaching and example of the church leaders themselves.

Understanding Scripture Seminar | Jason DeRouchieHow to Understand and Apply the Old Testament

  • Based on the recent publication of his book with the same title, this seminar will help us learn how to observe carefully, understand accurately, evaluate fairly, feel appropriately, act rightly, and express faithfully God’s revealed Word, especially as embodied in the Old Testament.

Counseling Seminar | Deepak Reju10 Redemptive Strategies to Help Improve Your Counseling

  • What are some helpful ways to interact with a counselee’s problems? God’s Word offers clear and distinct ways to interact with a person and their problems. In this session, we’ll explore 10 redemptive strategies that will improve your counseling.

Missions Seminar | Vermon PierreThe Gospel-Shaped Sending Church

  • A church centered and shaped by the gospel will be a church committed to the spread of the gospel everywhere. In this seminar we will consider how the gospel (the basic gospel story, the themes and values of the gospel) should inspire and also practically shape the local church’s engagement in missions outreach.

SEMINAR GROUP 4 – 3:45 PM – 4:30 PM

Women’s Ministry Seminar | Mary K Mohler | Joy in Living a Life of Gratitude

  • How can we cultivate hearts that resonate with gratitude for what Christ has done for us, whether we are facing joys or sorrows or seemingly ordinary days?  What common obstacles hinder us from regularly expressing heart felt gratitude? This workshop will seek to address these questions and to encourage us to cultivate gratitude, only by God’s grace.

Youth Ministry Seminar | Jon NielsonThe Joy of Word-Centered Youth Ministry

  • As young people listen to the siren calls of the world around them, ministers to youth can often become discouraged, fatigued…and can even begin to doubt the sufficiency of God’s Word and the power of the biblical gospel. Who are we – strange men and women who hold out Bible teaching to young people whose affections are pulled in so many different directions? This seminar will call youth ministers to the deep and lasting joy of Word-centered ministry to youth – both for young people, and for the ministers themselves.

Healthy Churches Seminar | Ed MooreShould I Stay or Should I Go?: Practical Considerations for the Burnt-Out Servant

  • The temptation to quit or move on is a reality for many who serve the Kingdom of God. A realistic assessment as to whether or not to continue requires divine wisdom. How does one find joy while fighting burnout?

Discipleship Seminar | Phil Newton | How Mentoring and a Healthy Congregation Partner in Discipleship

  • While mentoring remains popular in Christian circles, when separated from the context of a healthy congregation it becomes a one-dimensional tool for discipling. The New Testament exemplifies discipling taking place in a community of Christ-followers. This seminar explores models for mentoring in community as the most effective approach to ongoing discipling.

Understanding Scripture Seminar |  Andy Naselli | How to Understand and Apply the New Testament

  • Based on the recent publication of his book with the same title, this seminar is for anyone who wants to understand and apply the New Testament in a responsible, well-informed, and God-glorifying way. Together we will walk through a carefully field-tested twelve-stage interpretive process that pastors, scholars, teachers, and laypeople can use with benefit.

Counseling Seminar | Mike Emlet | When and How a Pastor Should Refer

  • When should the help you provide as a pastor extend beyond yourself and perhaps even beyond the resources of your congregation? This session will help you discern when referral of a member of your congregation for additional evaluation, counsel, and care may be a wise and helpful option.

Missions Seminar | AJ Gibson | Teaching the Nations: Pursuing the Joy of all Peoples through Leadership Training and Deep Discipleship

  • While much attention has been given in the past half-century to pioneer church planting and reaching the unreached, the greatest need in much of the world today is mission strategies that focus on establishing and strengthening the existing national church through leadership training and deep discipleship. Such strategies not only follow the example set by the Apostle Paul’s ministry (see 2 Tim. 2:2), they are also often the best means of reaching the remaining unreached peoples in a given country or region. This workshop will make the case that in order to finish the mission and fulfill the great commission we must work toward healthy, theologically sound national churches with solid, well-trained leaders who are capable of providing pastoral and theological training for subsequent generations.
