Associate Minister (Full-Time) –Job Description

Brief Description: The Associate Minister will fulfill a diverse array of functions and duties spread across the entire life of the church including administration, preaching and teaching, outreach, member care and building maintenance. Under the technical rubric of the FRBC By-Laws he will be classified as a “Vocational Minister.”

Supervision: The Associate Minister will report directly to the Preaching Elder and ultimately to the Council of Elders.

Qualifications:

• Although as a “Vocational Minister” the Associate Minister will not initially be called to serve as an Elder, he should, nonetheless, meet the qualifications put forward for eldership in 1 Timothy 3:1-7.
• He must be in substantial agreement with the 1689 London Baptist Confession.
• It is preferred that he has earned either a Master of Divinity degree or possibly its near equivalent (e.g. M.A. Theological Studies)

  • Administration
    •  Sunday morning worship preparation
      • Create Sunday morning bulletins
        • Liturgical elements
        • Announcements
      • Ensure that facilities are well ordered and ready for worship
        • Assist Preaching Elder as needed in coordinating Sunday morning worship service
        • Meetings
    • Coordinate members meetings
      • Arrange dates
      • Create, print and distribute agendas
      • Prepare, print and organize supplementary material for meetings as needed
    • Coordinate midweek meeting schedules
      • Oversee meeting locations and dates
      • Create and distribute schedule
    • Coordinate new members meetings
      • Arrange meeting locations and dates
      • Communicate meeting times and dates with relevant parties
      • Prepare, print and organize supplementary material for meetings as needed
    • Serve as liaison between elders and ministry volunteers
    • Maintain church calendar
    • Coordinate special projects as needed
    • Clerking and Records Maintenance
  • Preaching and Teaching
    • Preach Sunday mornings as needed
    • Teach on Sunday nights as needed
    • Teach Discipleship Training Classes as needed
    • Teach in various other contexts as needs arise
  • Advertising/Outreach
    • Research, evaluate and present potential outreach outlets as needed
    • Research, evaluate and present potential advertising outlets as needed
    • Serve as contact person with advertising outlets
    • Serve as contact person with outreach outlets
  • Member Care
    • Serve as liaison for fellowship gatherings
    • Assist elders as needed
  • Building Maintenance
    • Contact/follow-up with service people (e.g. air conditioner service, exterminator, etc.)
    • Prepare building for upcoming meetings
    • Coordinate procurement of office supplies (e.g. paper, printing cartridges, staples, etc.)
