Grand Rapids, Michigan
Forest Hills Baptist Church is seeking a full-time Lead Teaching Pastor who will serve faithfully as an Elder and exemplify godly character. The man FHBC seeks will be qualified by training, doctrinal affirmation, and character to hold the position of spiritual under-shepherd of Christ’s church. He will desire to teach and help lead FHBC to accomplish God’s purposes according to the biblical criteria for a pastor (Acts 20: 28-32, 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1: 5-9, 1 Peter 5:1-4).
He will prioritize his relationship with the Lord and help lead the congregation out of the overflow of personal abiding with Christ. He will first and foremost desire to know God and pursue this relationship by prioritizing time in spiritual disciplines such as Bible study and prayer. He will model godly character with the marks of biblical wisdom, integrity, and love. FHBC desires his heart to be one of humility and genuine care for others, as seen in his lifestyle of discipling others and providing counsel. He will be an approachable and relational shepherd with a desire to serve the FHBC family and the surrounding Forest Hills community.
His work’s primary focus will be to shepherd the church, direct the public teaching ministry, and co-lead the church staff. He will prioritize influencing the ministries of the church to equip the congregation to reach the lost with the Gospel and make disciples in their spheres of influence. His commitment will be to teach with the conviction that the Bible is the authoritative, inerrant, infallible Word of God which is “profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16). As a result, his preaching will be characterized as an expository approach with the outcome of helping a congregation with varied levels of biblical knowledge understand the meaning of a biblical passage and learn how to apply it to personal circumstances.
In concert with the Elders, the next FHBC Lead Teaching Pastor will have a vision for the church, and lead the staff towards that end, providing direction, leadership, and care. FHBC recognizes every God-called pastor as possessing strengths and weaknesses, just as any other church member, and commits to follow the leadership God provides through His servant. The congregation and leadership of Forest Hills Baptist Church are eager to welcome into our healthy community God’s man to fulfill His ministry.
