Full-Time Secondary English Teacher (High School)

Job Summary: Mount Calvary Christian School of Elizabethtown, PA has an opening for a full-time, secondary English teacher beginning August 2020. Salary is commensurate with experience. Essential Duties: We expect that the teacher will instruct to levels that exceed state and common core standards and that he/she will follow Mount Calvary Christian School policies and procedure guidelines for an effective program. This teacher must be able to evaluate students creatively through a broad variety of assessments. The ability to maintain positive communication with both parents and students is also required. A forward-thinking person with knowledge of a cutting edge inquiry-based learning pedagogy will be highly considered, especially those who understand higher level thinking processes and have a demonstrated proficiency, or knowledge of, inquiry-based methods. The interview may involve a teaching sample in order to demonstrate proficiencies.

Job Qualifications: We seek a committed Christian who is also a high quality English teacher with the minimum of a bachelor’s degree and teaching certificate. A master’s degree and the desire to teach college level English is highly preferred. This person must demonstrate evidence of teaching excellence. The ability to teach poetry, drama, and prose in American literature and British literature, as well as world literature is required. The candidate should exhibit writing proficiency in order to teach advanced composition, have advanced grammar skills, and the ability to edit fiction and non-fiction. The applicant should be ACSI certified or be willing to attain ACSI certification. The teacher will be responsible for all logistical tasks which include, but are not limited to, writing curriculum as part of subject area committees, writing and implementing daily lesson plans, assessing student understanding in a timely and effective manner, maintaining grades on Renweb, keeping parents informed of expectations and student progress, and actively participating and contributing to division and school-wide events. The course sequence that will be taught by this teacher involves a selection from within the following courses as well as possible honors sections. The candidate should not look at this as a fixed list, but may be required to adjust according to need and shared responsibility with another teacher.

• English 11-12 British Literature
• English 11-12 Advanced Composition–1st semester; World Literature– 2nd semester
• Dual Enrollment English classes

Other Duties: All our teachers actively participate in staff and professional development meetings as well as other professional development opportunities to improve competencies. It will be incumbent upon the hire to perform other related duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator. This may include, but is not limited to, student advising, student government, study hall duty, and typical secondary teacher-duties.

Spiritual Qualifications: The candidate must possess a strong Christian philosophy of Education and be in agreement with the published doctrinal statement of Mount Calvary Church. We desire that all staff be born again Christians who possesses a clear Christian testimony and evidence of spiritual maturity and servanthood. Although this individual will not be functioning in a pastoral capacity, we desire employees aspire to the highest levels of character (1 Timothy 3:2-12; Titus 1:6-9; Matthew 20:26-27 and Mark 9:35).
