A Promise of Mercies

Share

How many of us have turned to Lamentations 3:22-23 during times of distress or trouble?  These are precious words of promise that give all of us hope—no matter what we are facing.

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;

his mercies never come to an end;

they are new every morning;

great is your faithfulness.

In addition to giving comfort in our present situations, they also reveal a beautiful promise that is ongoing.  His mercies are new every morning.  Meditate on that for a moment with me.  The mercies of the Lord of the universe are new every single morning of our lives.  They are not old.  They never come to an end.  Their newness every morning means they are sufficient for every day and for all time. We should be the most hope-filled, optimistic people on the planet!

It’s also a reminder that every day promises a “new” start for each of us—no matter what has happened to us in the past and no matter what may happen to us in the future.  The Lord’s mercies are new every day and sufficient every single day of our lives.

That’s one of the things I love about being involved with students.  Every year presents an opportunity for a new start with new friends, new experiences, new information, glorious old truths, and new depths of faith and joy.

Our school year just began last week as we welcomed over 50 new students into our college & seminary family.  My wife and I had the opportunity to meet many of them (and some of the parents) during orientation activities and other events of the week.  We were so impressed with the caliber of students the Lord continues to bring to our school.  Thank you for your part in what the Lord is accomplishing here!

I pray that you too, would experience the joys and the peace of knowing that the Lord’s mercies are new every single morning—for you.  They are new, they are sufficient, and they are never ending.

I am so grateful for your partnership with us in the greatest cause in the universe.

Prayer Requests:

  1. Please pray for all of us at the school as we all get settled into the school year schedule. Pray for the Lord to be powerfully at work among us—students, faculty, and staff.
  2. Please also pray as we continue our preparations for the Decennial Convocation. Pray for Dr. Mohler, Chancellor Piper, and others who will be involved in the event, that the Lord would anoint them and use them for His glory.
  3. And, as always, please continue to pray for our finances. Pray for our ongoing operational needs and that the Lord would allow us to significantly grow our endowment fund to help ensure the long-term financial stability of this amazing school.
