Magnet Classes Fall 2022

With Dr. Joe Rigney

Foundations of Christian Hedonism

In this seminar, Dr. Rigney will explore the biblical and philosophical foundations for the life-changing approach to life and ministry known as Christian Hedonism. From God’s eternal delight in himself in the Trinity, to his creation of the world that displays his glory, to his providence over all of history, to the human response of joy and delight in God himself and his gifts, this seminar will challenge and provoke you to join God in the ultimate purpose for all things.

  • Tuesday September 6, 2022
  • 9am – 3pm (lunch break from 12pm-1pm)
  • Bethlehem North Campus

Foundations of Theological Anthropology

In this seminar, Dr. Rigney will explore the nature of human beings as embodied and ensouled creatures, with both intellect and will. This seminar will reflect on the various faculties of the mind and their relation to the body, as well as the differences between affections, passions, emotions, and choices. These foundational reflections will be brought to bear on practical issues such as the role of duty in the Christian life, the struggle with anxiety and depression, and the role of the body and mind in sanctification.

  • 9am – 3pm (lunch break from 12pm-1pm)

Foundations of Interpretation

In this seminar, Dr. Rigney will explore the goal and method of interpretation, both of the Scriptures and of everything else. This seminar will commend Golden Rule Hermeneutics (Treat authors as you want to be treated), distinguish between an author’s intended meaning as well as a text’s abiding significance, and explore how we can read great books in light of the Greatest Book.
