Snapshot of Kaleo Church.
Kaleo is a “teenage” church which was planted as a Spanish-speaking church in 2007. Overtime, more English speakers joined the ministry until Kaleo morphed into a bilingual church. After 2020 Kaleo slowly transitioned to a fully English speaking church.
Kaleo currently has about 14 families in partnership (membership) and about 50-60 regular attenders (partners and non-partners). We have families of all ages and all walks in life, as well as different socio-economic backgrounds, and from the different towns in Grays Harbor.
Kaleo is a non-denominational church with reformed baptistic convictions. However, we strive to be a church where believers with different convictions and from different traditions feel loved and welcomed, and are able to grow in the gospel and be challenged to think deeply about their own convictions without feeling alienated from the life of the church.
We also strive to be a church where unbelievers experience the love of Christ, as well as be challenged to repent from their sins and surrender their lives to Jesus. Some of the main rhythms and ministries of Kaleo are: Sunday Gathering at 4PM, Sunday School for kids 0-8, Gospel Communities (home groups that meet during the week), DNA groups (small discipleship groups for men and for women), monthly prayer meeting, monthly potlucks, various game nights, etc.
Kaleo is a very relational church where most people know each other and care for one another. With many young families and small children, we see the need to train parents, expand our children’s ministry to include more ages, possibly form a youth group, have more classes on marriage, discipleship, parenting, etc.
As our mission states, Kaleo seeks to promote God’s kingdom everywhere on the Harbor (and beyond). We desire to be used by God to bring people from the domain of darkness into the kingdom of God. We want to reach all of our neighbors with the gospel. In the last few years, however, God has particularly sent the homeless population of Aberdeen to us. This is a complex ministry but who are we to stand in God’s way? For the last 3 years Kaleo has been hosting a weekly Bible study for the homeless, and we have seen slow but steady growth in the spiritual lives of the people we serve.
At the same time, Kaleo’s focus remains broad and thus we seek to minister to everyone regardless of their housing status, age, ethnicity, socio-economic background, etc.
These are only some highlights of the ministry of Kaleo. At the end of the day, we want to be faithful to our Lord Jesus Christ in everything we do, and we strive to build the church in whatever direction he leads.
