Perspective Through Elections

Share

With another election coming up in just a few days, it’s important to put it into its proper perspective.  No matter who you’re going to vote for, it’s critical to remember that elections do not ultimately determine our future—God and God alone holds that power.  We should by all means participate in the democratic process and exercise our freedom to vote in this and every election.  However, we can do so without angst regarding the outcome since we know that the future belongs to the Lord.

As the prophet Daniel acknowledged:

“Blessed be the name of God forever and ever,
to whom belong wisdom and might.
He changes times and seasons;
he removes kings and sets up kings;
he gives wisdom to the wise
and knowledge to those who have understanding…” Daniel 2:20-21

Not one political leader, in this country or any other country, is put in place apart from God’s sovereign will and design.  As we read in the passage above, God “removes kings and sets up kings.” Since this is absolutely true, we need not be anxious about the outcome of this or any other election.  Should we care?  Yes.  Should we worry?  No!  Keeping the political process in its proper perspective, along with everything else in our lives, is a key for living a joy-filled, anxiety-free life.

No matter how encouraging or how discouraging you think political and cultural conditions are right now, you can trust in the Lord God to bring about His redemptive purposes in the world, in due time.  Our faith and hope are rightfully placed in Him and not in our earthly leaders.

May the Lord help us to keep all of life in its proper perspective and live hope-filled lives that look to Jesus as our only sure hope.  That’s my prayer for you and for our students as we anticipate the glorious future when Christ comes to claim His bride at the consummation of history.

In anticipation of that great day,

Prayer Requests:

  1. Please keep our students in your prayers. For some of them, this is still all very new and the pressures of significant assignments as well as balancing work and family responsibilities can be challenging.  Pray that their joy would remain full (or become full).
  2. Also, please keep our Self-Study writing project in your prayers as well. These next few weeks are critical for us to complete the writing of this important document which we pray will extend our accreditation for another 10 years—if the Lord wills!
  3. And, as always, continue to pray for our finances. Pray especially for the Alex Steddom International Student Fund that the Lord would replenish it completely.
  4. Pray also for these next two, critical months that the Lord would shower His grace and mercy upon us with generous giving toward the Serious Joy Scholarship.
